Cleansing crystals - radiation
Dearest Mr. Permutt,
I was wondering if one should refrain from holding their crystals in tap water, filtered water or even a stream or river to cleanse them in light of the detection of small levels of radioactivity found in rain water since the Japan tragedy. I am writing from Colorado, where levels are actually higher here than in California due to the elevation. Matrix materials seem to hold water for awhile. If exposed to these amounts, would crystals be permanently toxified? What do you think? Thanks, Allie H.

At the moment the radiation levels are so low that I don’t think it matters. You definitely won’t make your crystals toxic. The natural background radiation in some areas on Earth is 6 x the current levels being experienced in the air in Tokyo. Of course this may change and you should keep abreast of the situation. If the reactor blows then I’d worry!
In the meantime if you feel concerned try wearing or carrying turquoise, Herkimer diamond, schorl (black tourmaline) or pyrite to reduce the effects of the radiation. You could also make an elixir of Herkimer diamond to cleanse your crystals with.
